Organisational Development Lab

Many non‑profits struggle to define their institutional ambitionand translate it into clear choices, coherent governance structures, predictable decision-making processes and sustained programming, despite wealth of ideas and highly committed staff. Strategic plans and other smart documents are often produced with great effort but remain disconnected from daily work, internal power dynamics and available capacities, undermining long‑term, collective impact. Consumed by day-to-day implementation challenges, organisations often embark on necessary change processes late and in reaction to external developments rather than as a part of their institutional vision.

We support governmentaland non-governmental organisations in strengthening their ability to fulfil their missions and mandates through practical organisational development, bridging the gap between formalistic processes and everyday practice. We go beyond producing static documents to embedding meaningful change in leadership, governance, structures, processes, and organisational culture. We are particularly interested in various aspects of the localisation-of-aid agenda and understanding how it shapes and impacts various organisational realities.

Organisational development (OD) views organisations as living organisms able and willing to strengthen their effectiveness through planned, participatory change. Classic OD models stress a cyclical process based on a diagnosis of situation within the internal and external context, joint plan, action and evaluation of impact before adjusting the course. Our also emphasizes culture, relationships, structures and incentives, seeking to align them with the organisation’s purpose in a way that people recognise as legitimate and workable.Rather than offering off‑the‑shelf blueprints or highly sophisticated theories we work alongside organisations to design processes, structures and ways of working that fit their specific context, political economy and institutional ambitions with an emphasis on practical applicability, ownership and implementation. More often than not, the process is equally important as the outcome.

Building on our team’s decades of hands-on managerial experience, our engagements with organisations include support in strategic planning, organisational innovation and change, organisational audits and analysis, risk management, and accountability processes. Our team members have served in senior executive NGO roles and on NGO boards, worked within the UN and governmental structures, having directly engaged in and led multi-cultural teams through dozens of strategy- and organisational-change processes. We apply a pragmatic, tailored approach grounded in proven OD theory but adapted to specific contexts and ambitions, and the ultimate goal of building institutions that can sustain and amplify their impact in complex environments. We recognize that each organisation is a part of a complex ecosystem, relationships and interactions with which are key to the given organisation’s success.
